Well, last year about this time we were in the hospital for Kelly and Eli. Today was Matt's turn. Our morning started at 4:30am when we left for the hospital. The doctor took Matt as his first surgery of the day and operated for about an hour. Here is a link to an animation of the procedure. http://www.drdillin.com/education/animation.htm. (You have to click on "lumbar micro endoscopic discectomy" The surgery went well with no complications.
Matt doesn't remember how he got to the recovery room or even when Kelly came to see him afterwards, but within a couple hours all of the goofy side effects from the anesthesia were gone. We waited for a few more hours (during which time Matt was assigned a buff male nurse wearing pink scrubs). Finally around 3:00 pm we were free to go only to face one and half hours of stop-and- go traffic...not exactly pleasant for Matt who feels pain with every bump, but also not as bad as it could have been.
We are both glad to be home after a long day and anxious for the recovery to begin. Matt will have pretty limited movement for a while so he is keeping the essentials close at hand. Thanks again for all of your continued prayers and concerns. We will keep you all updated on the recovery process.

Glad to hear Matt's home. That animation is super cool! It's crazy how they're able to do that!!! Is he in a lot of pain? It's a wonder that he hasn't asked for a little bell to call for you, but it's nice of you to keep everything within arms reach for him (and Eli...who's probably messing up all of dad's stuff and playing with his toys).
Hope you're back to normal soon Matt!
Ummm, Matt I think that the viedo controller might be a tad too heavy for you! And that remote control...We're just glad that everthing went well! We'll see you soon, call us if you need anything. See you nest weekend! ~D&T
Glad everything went well! Those cookies look soooo good!!!
That surgery thing was cool!I espically liked the bandaid at the end. How long do you think it will be until Matt starts feeling some relief?
Matt's not in too much pain....as long as he doesn't move!!! And you can bet that if we had a little bell for him to ring that he would be ringing it! He is already feeling better than he did yesterday so hopefully he recovers quickly. (If he would actually take his pain killers I'm sure he would feel even better) If not, he already plans to blow up an air mattress and take it to the park for Eli's birthday party so that he has a soft place to lay!
