It didn't feel so much like Christmas this year. Maybe the lack of decorations, no Christmas tree, no baking, and not exchanging gifts had something to do with it!!! The sad part is that none of that stuff is what Christmas is really about so it shouldn't matter. I guess our Christmas traditions have a bigger impact on us than we thought. I'm not saying that this will be our new norm, but sometimes it takes a "stripped-down" Christmas to remember what it is really about.
We did have a great time with friends and family. Our celebrations started the week before with a little gingerbread house building party. A few days later we had the annual Aceves family tamale-making get together (Eli had his first tamale and he loved it!!!) On Christmas eve we went to the afternoon service of church so that we would be home in time for Kelly's parents and brother to arrive. When the arrived, we had a wonderful gourmet meal which consisted of double-doubles and fries (Thanks to In-N-Out)
On Christmas morning Eli opened a few gifts from Grandma and Grandpa Thompson and Uncle Aaron. We had a late lunch feast (seriously it was a feast...Some of the best Prime Rib ever!) Later in the afternoon, we were joined by the Aceves family. We had dessert and once again watched Eli open some gifts. I think he enjoys the wrapping paper and ribbons the most!
I hope everyone had a great Christmas....and try not to get too crazy celebrating the new year.

Was there a reason you didn't decorate or bake this year?
We also didn't decorate much or set up the tree, because we were on Jeffrey alert! We did get to enjoy David and Jamie's decorations though.

Well...Happy New Year!
Mainly, we didn't have the money for me to do all the baking. Plus we didn't really have any Christmas parties or gift exchanges to go to. The no decorating was a combination of not wanting to dig through all our decorations in Rick & Karen's attic, and not wanting to spend a whole month telling Eli "no touch" everytime he approached the Christmas tree or decorations. There's always next year!

I also saw the pictures of him and the tamales. I am so glad that Eli liked them... he is a true Mexican :)
We had a very scaled down Christmas as well... Kenny was away on a flight. Like you said though... sometimes it is nice to just have a quiet holiday.
